A much different course today. It had quite a bit more flow to it and almost twice as fast as the first day. I like a course that tests all or most of what I refer to as the four savvy’s. Two savvy’s are on the horse and two on the ground. This course didn’t allow for any ground work. Everyone seemed to agree it was going to be a horse race from start to finish. It never feels like we are going that fast and when I watch my run it doesn’t look like Jet is flying. I guess things aren’t always as they appear because he sure lived up to his name. I didn’t believe we could outrun the other horses so I thought I would come out of the gate really moving then slow right done at center and bring him back to a real quiet slow canter and then go again maybe for some extra points. We did that and then Jet thought maybe I was going to ask for the other lead after the first circle and popped a lead that I didn’t ask for. Had I made it real clear and give him more support we could have done a bit better on the run in. I felt the rest went well until the bridge where I asked for a bit of a bend to the left as we reached the last corner to try and help him and I over supported. Hind sight being 20-20 he probably would have rolled right through it easily with less help. He never ceases to amaze me. Even with me slowing him down and then cantering a circle he was still the fastest horse on the course. The stumble on the bridge cost us some points but the good news is I didn’t forget the pattern. I have my strategy planned for tomorrow. I changed my normal strategy for today but I’m back to my usual game plan for the last day. We will see if it works. - Glenn.
